Updated Salary Scale for ECDE Teachers 2023/2024
Teachers and caregivers in the field of Early childhood Development and Education (ECDE) can now examine the entire details of their compensation, according to a clarification given by the compensation & Remuneration Commission, SRC.
These teachers shouldn’t be paid at least Ksh7,000 a month, according to the Salaries Review Commission.
Data on Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) Professionals’ Pay
Inaccurate media reports about the Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) Salary Structure have been made, and the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) wants to make the public aware of this.
According to these research, ECDE teachers are paid less than the federally mandated minimum wage. The reports were inaccurate since they were based on basic income as opposed to gross pay.
The SRC claims that in December 2021, it recommended a gross remuneration range of Ksh 14,961 to Ksh 15,842 for the lowest cadre of ECDE instructors in Nairobi (Cluster 1) and Ksh 13,211 to Ksh 14,092 for those in Cluster 4 (other areas).
This recommendation took into account the pay commitments of county governments in terms of affordability and long-term viability.
The SRC clarified the pay and perks of ECDE teachers on January 13, 2023 in response to a request from county governments.
All public employees, including ECDE teachers, are currently having their salaries reviewed by the SRC as part of the third pay review cycle. In June 2023, the outcomes are expected.
Salary and compensation commissions
According to Article 230 of Chapter 12 of the 2010 Kenyan Constitution, the Salary and Remuneration Commission (SRC) was created. Two primary responsibilities fall under the purview of the State SRC:
a) deciding upon and assessing the pay and benefits offered to all State officers.
b) providing national and local governments with guidance on the pay and benefits of other public employees.
