TSC Will not Employ Teachers With P1 Certificates
The Teachers Service Commission, or TSC, has terminated the employment of P1 instructors in accordance with a plan drafted by the commission.
The TSC revealed its plans to do away with the P1 qualification as a requirement for entering the teaching service in a paper titled “Framework on Entry Requirement in the Teaching Service.”
The TSC announced its plan to eliminate the P1 qualification as a prerequisite for joining the teaching service in a report titled “Framework on Entry Requirement in the Teaching Service.”
Recently, the commission has taken a stricter stance on issues involving the teaching profession. This is required so that the commission can make sure that new teachers are qualified to lead the education sector.
TSC has replaced it with a certification that adheres to the Competency Based Curriculum, or CBC. TSC mandates that teachers must hold a Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) in order to be hired to teach in Grades 1 through 6.
The framework recommends that all Kenyan teachers at all levels be obliged to have an education degree before beginning their professions.
However, the article states that TSC will accept a post-training upgrade certificate from a teacher who has successfully completed training programmes in ECDE, PTE, DTE BED, DIP ED, and SNE.
According to the Commission, you must possess a PTE from KNEC as well as a minimum Mean Grade C (simple) or its equivalent at the KCSE and higher. After then, the educators can concentrate on instructing students in both home and foreign languages in grades 1-3 and 4-6.

At least 229,00 P1 instructors are improving their skills in various Teacher Training Colleges, according to TSC data (TTCs). P1 instructors who believed the Commission would appoint them without updating their Primary Teacher Education (PTE) credentials were given a setback by these most recent suggestions.
P1 instructors won’t be hired by the Commission after 2024, according to certain agents, who advise them to join.
Many P1 instructors allege they are unable to pay the training charge, which in many colleges surpasses sh. 100,000 when practicum and KNEC assessment expenses are included.
The second group of Diploma upgraders was added in September. The Ministry of Education also announced the April opening’s application process, which ended last month.
