JSS April Holiday Training On PCK
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is set to train the junior secondary school teachers this April after the schools have been closed.
The Teachers Service Commission TSC has commenced the recruitment process of the County Trainers who will train the Junior School teachers on the Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) in Languages and Humanities.
In each county, the County Teacher Capacity Development Committees (CTCDC) will be responsible for the recruitment process.
Each CTCDC has released and advert for those who are interested to submit the application.
These teachers were retooled last month in Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) and Competency Based Assessment (CBA).
During the retooling, the school headteachers were retooled for three day while the Junior Secondary School teachers were retooled for five day.
During the training, the commission targeted teachers in these clusters subject areas;
CBC Learning Areas JSS Teachers Were Trained
- Mathematics
- Kiswahili and KSL
- English, Literature, foreign and indigenous languages
- Pure sciences which include integrated science which has three components i.e Biology, physics and Chemistry and also in Health Education.
- Humanities which comprises of social studies housing citizenship, Geography and history), Religious studies which has CRE, IRE, HRE, FIRE and PPI and also life skills.
- Technical subjects Which has pre career and pre vocational studies, Business studies, sports and physical Education, Home science and art and design.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) recently promoted about 7,282 primary school teachers who had the qualifications to teach in junior secondary.
Those who were promoted were those who had a diploma or degree in Education and had scored a mean grade of C+ and a C+ in the two teaching subjects.

The commission is now targeting the JSS teachers this April Holiday for a further training in PCK .
The second phase of deployment of primary school teachers is still ongoing.
It has emerged that the learners in JSS will have a lesser workload following a proposal to reduce the compulsory learning areas from 12 to 10.

The reduction in learning areas has been done by inculcating Life skills with social studies while Health Education with integrated science.
The official announcement of the above changes will be made public after the president receives the report from the Presidential working Party on Education Reforms (PWPER).
The working team has already tabled the report and its yet to be made public.
