TSC Teacher Recruitment And Intern Confirmation To PnP Terms
In February 2023, the teachers service commission employed almost 20,000 intern teachers. After that, the teachers were placed in junior high and high schools all around the nation to manage the competency-based curriculum.
But according to the commission, these educators will work for a total of two years before being approved to permanent, pensionable positions. As a result, it is anticipated that the lecturers will be confirmed for permanent terms in 2025.
The commission has made it plain that it intends to hire an additional 20,000 intern teachers in order to address the teacher deficit that exists in junior secondary schools. Before the year ends this year, the teachers are expected to be hired.
Although this will help, there are still over 100,000 teachers needed to fill the gap.

The commission announced that it will need a staggering Ksh4.7 billion shillings for teacher recruitment through the CEO. The commission said that it changed the terms of remuneration from permanent and pensionable to internship terms due to the severe teacher shortage.
Due to the limited funding available, the commission claimed it would be expensive to hire such a large number of instructors on long-term contracts.
She did, however, confirm that the teachers who would be employed to replace those who have left the service due to natural attrition will do so on a permanent basis with pension benefits.
The CEO made it very apparent that every intern teacher is qualified and reassured the public that the standards and quality of instruction in our kenyan schools will not be compromised in the slightest.
TSC was given ksh322 billion in the budget policy statement for 2023–2024. The Teachers Service Commission started looking at the issue of employing teachers through the internship programme in 2019.
The intern instructors are typically given preference when hiring teachers for permanent and pensionable terms since they receive an additional 30 points. They are essentially guaranteed the jobs as a result.
Primary school interns receive sh. 15000, while their secondary school counterparts receive sh. 20,000 per month, subject to regulatory deductions.
According to the TSC registry for registered teachers, there are currently more than 300,000 teachers without jobs, despite the fact that there is a teacher shortage.
More JSS instructors, according to the TSC CEO, have not received full payment for their back pay. She added, however, that the commission had made arrangements to settle their back arrears in full this month.
