TSC Slammed over Dedicating its responsibility to Politicians
The Executive Secretary of the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Kisumu branch, Zablon Awange, has accused the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) of neglecting its responsibilities by allowing politicians to interfere.
Awange expressed regret that the TSC, which is supposed to be responsible for recruiting, employing, and promoting teachers, has seen politicians taking over these functions.
He pointed out instances where politicians, including cabinet secretaries, have publicly distributed employment letters, which he considers a violation of the TSC’s mandate. According to him, these politicians tend to favor their supporters and relatives when distributing such letters.

Awange also highlighted the issue of discrimination in teacher promotions within the county. He mentioned that some teachers who have raised concerns about this issue in the past have faced disciplinary actions in the form of transfers.
As the leader of KUPPET, Awange called upon government authorities to review cases of teachers who have been dismissed over various matters and urged them to pardon those with weak or unjustified cases.
