TSC replacement vacancies OCT/NOV
In October 2023, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) introduced a plan to address teacher vacancies resulting from the departure of more than 4,000 educators during the months of July, August, and September due to natural attrition. The main objective of this initiative is to ensure minimal disruption to students’ education.
The CEO of TSC took the opportunity to clarify any rumors surrounding the replacement process and emphasized the importance of patience. The TSC will communicate updates and notifications about these vacancies through official social media platforms once the positions are finalized.
Furthermore, the TSC will release a comprehensive list of available teaching positions, including school details and subject requirements. Successful applicants should be ready to serve in schools across the country, and open positions will be easily accessible on the TSC website during the application process.

Teacher shortages are a persistent challenge in Kenyan schools, mainly attributed to the 100% transition program initiated by former President Uhuru Kenyatta. The shortage is particularly severe in elementary schools, with an urgent need for approximately 38,054 teachers. Post-primary institutions face an even more dire situation, with a shortage of about 58,291 instructors, resulting in a significant teacher deficit of approximately 96,000 in Kenyan schools.
Additionally, Technical and Vocational Education Training Colleges are experiencing a shortage of around 5,000 teachers. The government is actively engaged in plans to increase the number of teachers in public schools while also working to improve the overall working conditions for educators nationwide.
