Teachers who are hired by the Teachers Service Commission through the internship programme must serve a one-year term.
However, it’s crucial to keep in mind that intern instructors are welcome to apply if TSC posts job openings for permanent positions.

The internship may be terminated at the commission’s or an officer or agent’s request for unsatisfactory performance or a failure to adhere to the standards of conduct established for the internship.
The TSC internship agreement states that the internship is unpaid. However, interns will receive a stipend as may occasionally be decided by the Commission. The Commission will make annual financial provisions in this regard.

Secondary school intern teachers receive a special remuneration of 20,000 Kenyan shillings.
This sum is subject to two deductions: Kes. 200.00 from the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) and Kes. 750.00 from the National Social Security Fund (NSSF). Deductions total Kes 950.00 in total.
The teacher gets home Kes. 19,050.00 once all deductions are made.
