TSC 2023/2024 Hiring, Promotions and Training of Teachers
In order to alleviate the teacher deficit in public junior secondary schools, at least 20,000 instructors will be hired.
The government has set aside Sh4.8 billion, according to Treasury CS Njuguna Ndung’u, to hire additional intern teachers.
Teachers in all cadres will be promoted using an additional Sh1.1 billion. Furthermore, according to Ndung’u, Sh1.3 billion will be set aside for the retraining of teachers in the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Ndung’u stressed that the government’s ultimate goal is to build an equal society, which is a crucial component of human capital, during the presentation of this year’s budget.
Ndung’u stated, “I recommend to the National Assembly an allocation of Sh628.6 billion to the sector in order to improve education in the nation.
As a result, the government will keep addressing the flaws in our educational system to guarantee equitable opportunity for all kids, regardless of their circumstances.
Teachers were given the assurance by Teachers Service Commission, TSC Chief Executive Dr. Nancy Macharia that the commission will hire at least 25,000 teachers year for the following five years if funds are available.

The number of students in schools has increased since free primary education and day secondary schooling were implemented. The number of students enrolled in public primary schools increased from 8,488,274 in the academic year 2019–20 to 8,849,268 in the fiscal year 202–21.
Teachers’ unions have recently urged the government to hire more teachers and promote those who have stayed in the same job group but have not advanced.
The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) Secretary General, Akelo Misori, underlined how demoralising it is for teachers.
Teachers have been filling acting roles for a long time, and no one bothered to advance them to the next level. They have been so profoundly frustrated by this that they are unable to apply for any openings when they become available, said Misori.
