The Ministry of Education Has paid Ksh.2.5 billion to CBC classroom contractors
The Ministry of Education will soon pay contractors who have been waiting.
The contractors will be paid Ksh.778,000 for each of the 3,500 classrooms.
Contractor Debra Atieno. She built three classrooms in two Siaya County schools. She told Citizen TV last month that bills were depressing her. She’s singing differently today.
“The last time I was here I was crying, today I can smile all the way to the bank,” adds Debra.
Debra’s excitement is shared by hundreds of people nationwide. The contractors will receive cheques and money in their accounts over the week, but they must first complete a few procedures.
The Ministry informs all subcounty education directors of the pending payments and orders the contractors to receive Ksh.2.5 billion.
Contractors must first show proof of work.

Project managers will approve contractor payments after receiving bills from contractors.
Contractors must also present minutes of sub county technical committee authorising payments, award letters, contract agreements, KRA certifications, partnership agreements, valid tax compliance certificate, and certificate of occupation.
Debra says they’re ready.
“The documents that were in Nairobi were returned now we are planning to take them to the respective schools so we can be paid,” explains Debra.
This payment concludes the government’s ambitious initiative to increase classroom learning space under the CBC system. The country presently has 10,000 classrooms.
Junior Secondary School students will not use most of the additional classrooms because plans to house them in secondary schools were rescinded.
