Schools with Teacher Deficit Receive Support From NGO
Teach for Kenya, an NGO, has established a platform for scholars in higher learning institutions to provide teaching services in schools facing staffing shortages. Their focus is on university students from local universities who undergo training before being deployed to schools in Nairobi and Kisumu. These students receive six weeks of training before being assigned to primary schools, primarily in underprivileged areas within these counties.
Yukabeth Kidenda, the CEO of the organization, mentioned, “Some students aspire to become professionals in society, and to complement that, we engage university graduates to help them achieve their full potential.”
The program has positively impacted 23 partner schools, including Kosawo Primary School in Kisumu and schools in Nairobi like Marura Primary, St. HydeMarie Primary, Kwa Njenga, Beta Life, and Our Lady of Nathareth.
Teach for Kenya recruits graduates from various academic backgrounds at local universities. The program is also designed to nurture leadership skills among young individuals, aiming to produce highly competent graduates in the long term.

To highlight their roles, the organization has arranged a summit that will gather 62 partners within the Teach for All global community. This three-day summit will provide a platform for sharing ideas, discussing program challenges, and promoting collaboration. It is the first time this conference is being held in Africa, offering the opportunity to share experiences, deliberate on challenges, and plan for the future.
Participants will have the chance to share their experiences with host schools and communities as they work towards eliminating educational inequality. Additionally, the summit will create networking opportunities for organizations with similar objectives, advocating for local solutions.
Kidenda emphasized the importance of understanding the unique challenges they face in their region, saying, “Education inequality is an intricate issue, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution. To eradicate inequality, we must collaborate.”
Through this approach, the organization intervenes to ensure that vulnerable learners are not excluded from quality education.
