Schools at the Brink of Closing Earlier This Term
The Kenyan educational system is in the process of completely transitioning away from 8.4.4 and implementing the recently introduced competency-based curriculum.
Since the introduction of the new competence-based curriculum, the first pioneer class, or grade 7 junior secondary school system, started junior secondary school this year.
The academic calendar was severely impacted by the COVID 19 pandemic that struck the nation in 2020, and the Ministry of Education was obliged to make changes to the Kenyan school calendar as a result.
Numerous changes have been made since then, some of which were a result of the country’s general elections last year (in 2012).
Since then, the government has made every effort to execute the curriculum, which also seems to be expensive.
For the second term of 2023, learning is currently taking place in all schools across the country.
The second term has 14 weeks instead of the previous first term’s 13 weeks, and only 4 weeks have passed thus far.
Despite a few minor difficulties, like the delivery of government monies to schools, teaching and learning are continuing smoothly.
The major dates for the entire year are included in the official academic calendar for 2023.
The significant dates are:
- schools, both primary and secondary Starting Dates
