Relieve as Unga & 9 Other Food Items Set to Drop
According to the most recent report by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), maize and wheat flour are among the top household items whose prices were anticipated to decline prior to the publication of the budget in June 2023.
Based on the May Agriculture Sector Survey 2023 Report, which was published on June 2nd, the CBK identified the top two household staples that are anticipated to decline as a result of the prolonged rains experienced over the previous three months and a decline in global prices.

The results of a poll of farmers and business owners in the retail and wholesale sectors were emphasized, according to CBK.
Other significant food items whose costs are anticipated to decline include:
- the typical veggies of Sukuma
- Â tomatoes, spinach, and cabbage
- Â carrots with potatoes.
- bottled and unbottled milk
As more pasture becomes accessible, the cost of most animal products, especially milk, may decrease as a result of a reduction in the need for animal feed.
The paper stated, in part, that “vegetable prices are expected to decrease further in June 2023 following increased supply of the fast-maturing crops from the long rains season.”
The article did not specify, though, how much the price of the food products will fall.
Additionally, prices for food items like eggs, sugar, cooking oil, etc. are predicted to soar.
Additionally, CBK said that price increases for the three commodities could also raise the cost of bread. For instance, since chickens rely significantly on processed feeds, egg prices could increase.
Additionally, due to decreased cane supply and high import costs, sugar prices are still high and may continue to do so.
Additionally, a rise in rice prices was anticipated due to the nation’s decreased agricultural output.
