Relief for ECDE Teachers as County Offers Them Permanent Jobs
After been hired on permanent and pensionable conditions, at least 602 Early Childhood Education Centres (ECDE) instructors in Siaya now have a reason to grin as a result of the county’s decision.
Even though they have been advocating for better working conditions for a long time, the instructors have been forced to continue working in deplorable conditions.
The new contracts for the teachers were given to them on Tuesday by the administration of Area Governor James Orengo’s office. The instructors came from all six sub-counties.
The governor had made a commitment to hire the ECDE teachers on a permanent basis and provide them with pension benefits.
According to Orengo, the new system provides better terms of employment to teachers based on their qualifications. “The teachers can now take advantage of these better terms,”

In the prior engagement, regardless of their qualifications, all of the teachers were eligible for the same pay rate of 22,626 Kenyan Shillings per month. However, from this month, those who hold certificates will receive a gross monthly wage of 23,853, while those who hold diplomas will receive 33,906. Those with a degree can anticipate a gross pay of Sh43,470 per month throughout their careers.
Orengo, who was giving the instructors their letters of appointment when he made his remarks, stated that this was a significant achievement for the instructors, and it is anticipated that this will push them to perform to the best of their abilities.
“My administration will also continue improving their working environment by putting up more infrastructure in our learning institutions,” he stated. “This is part of our ongoing commitment to excellence.”
