Reasons why Education CS Wants to Change School Bus Designs
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu is pushing for a major change in Kenya’s school transportation system: a complete overhaul of school bus design! But why? Let’s break down the reasons:
Safety First! Current school buses often use converted lorry chassis, raising safety concerns. These designs might not be as effective in protecting students in case of accidents compared to buses specifically built for children’s transportation.
Designed with Kids in Mind: Imagine uncomfortable rides on buses not built for smaller passengers! New designs could prioritize features like appropriate seating sizes, improved ventilation, and emergency exits specifically designed for children.
Comfort Matters: Long journeys deserve a comfortable ride. New designs could include features like storage space for backpacks, improved legroom, and even entertainment options for a more enjoyable travel experience.
Meeting International Standards: Many countries have specific regulations for school bus design. Aligning Kenyan school buses with these standards could ensure a safer and more efficient transportation system for students.
This initiative seems to be facing some roadblocks, but CS Machogu is urging stakeholders to collaborate and prioritize the safety and well-being of Kenyan students.
