NYS kicks off recruitment process Countrywide
The nationwide mass recruitment exercise for the National Youth Service has begun.
The five-day exercise is held just two months after a cluster that completed a six-month training program at the Gilgil training college graduated.
As the head of state, President William Ruto presided over the occasion.James Tembur, the new NYS director general who replaced Matilda Sakwa, said the exercise was open to everyone and urged the youth to participate in large numbers.
All interested candidates are encouraged to participate in the exercise in the subcounties listed in the advertisement, according to Tembur.
Jamlick Chabari, the deputy director general in charge of paramilitary training, met with the officers in charge of the recruitment last week.
Chabari emphasized the value of upholding the essential principles of the military throughout the exercise.
The April 25 advertisement stated, “The Kenya National Youth Service wishes to inform the general public that a recruitment exercise of NYS Volunteers (male and female) will be conducted throughout the Republic from April 15 and end on May 19, 2023, as per the below requirements and dates schedule.
Graduates must perform unpaid national service in any region of the country after completing their training.
Additionally, they receive training in a variety of disciplines, such as engineering, fashion and design, company management, catering, agriculture, secretarial work, plant operation, and construction.
Since 2013, the service has seen a significant transition, with about 30,000 recruits added each year.
The announcement states that orphans who match the requirements would be given particular precedence, provided they can produce appropriate documentary verification, such as death certificates for their parents or burial permits.
Disability-related individuals are also encouraged to participate in the recruiting process in their local subcounties and centers, provided they are capable of completing the demanding paramilitary training.
The candidates must be willing to have a medical examination both during and after the recruitment process.
Successful candidates must show up at the locations and times noted in their respective calling letters for the NYS paramilitary training course at NYS College, Gilgil, and NYSTTI Naivasha.
