New TSC Recruitment Guidelines & Requirements
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has updated its recruitment guidelines for all the new teachers seeking employment.
The guidelines will be applied whenever the commission will advertise the vacancies that are competitive and applicants need to attend interviews.
Therefore, all those qualified teachers seeking employment with the commission must read these guidelines keenly to ensure they take into account every small detail.
According to the TSC Act under section 23 (1) Cap 212, all the teachers practicing in any school in Kenya must be registered by the commission first.
Equation of TSC Certificate
The commission has emphasized on the applicants attaching a TSC certificate copy and if they don’t have, they should attach a print out bearing the verified registration status.
All those teachers who fail to present this document as evidence will miss out on employment.
Those who might have lost their certificates, KCPE or KCSE and have requested for confirmation of results from KNEC, should give the address of the county director to whom the copy has been sent to.
If you are working in the other government department but you have met all the requirements, you are allowed to submit your application.
Those making applications will be required to address their letters to the Secretary Board of Management (BoM) of the institution you wish to apply and also send another copy of the application to the respective TSC county office/ Sub-County Director.
The school heads are advised to acknowledge receipt of the application by sending am SMS to the applicants.
Further, they are required to also shortlist those who have merited and those who have not should be notified and given reasons.
A list of all applicants in a given county or Sub-County shall be compiled by the TSC Sub-County Director and presented during interviews.
The interview dates should be communicated through the County, Sub-County, zonal and institutional notice boards.
School heads are directed that they should invite all shortlisted applicants through an SMS at least seven day before the commencement of the interview.
All applicants must be notified as above and be informed of the date, time and venue of the interview.
All shortlisted applicants must be given equal opportunities irrespective of where they come from, disability, gender and ethnicity.

How To Break A Tie
In case there are candidates who tie, then considerations will be given using the following in their order of priority.
- Those applicants with disabilities
- Applicant’s age, for example, those aged 44-45 years with three years of teaching experience but have never worked with the commission.
- Certificate quality presented. For example, those with higher KCSE grade should be given priority. If the grade is found to be the same, the individual subject combination grades should be used.
- Those who have never been previously employed by the commission will be given priority.
The panel shall compile a list of the names of applicants organized in the order of Performance should be submitted to the Commission.
Requirements For TSC Employment
- Must be a Kenyan Citizen
- Must be aged 45 years and below but the commission can consider those with high age but have not clocked retirement.
- Must be registered as the TSC Act
- Those who are registered but don’t have the certificate should attach an online printout bearing a verified TSC number and a pay in slip for teacher registration.
Professional and Academic Certificates Required
- CPE/KCPE original certificate
- KCE/KCSE original certificate. If you repeated, you should carry all your certificates for all attempts
- PTE certificate for Primary School teachers
- Degree/Diploma original certificate
- School leaving certificates for both primary and secondary.
