MoE Reveals New Dates For Half Term in Second Term 2023
Next week, elementary, pre-kindergarten, and secondary schools will all have an early midterm vacation.
Following a statement from the Ministry of Education, there are adjustments to the half-term break. In fact, by the end of this week, many secondary schools expect to release students for the midterm vacation.
Dr. Belio Kipsang, the Principal Secretary (PS) for Basic Education at the Ministry of Education, notified the adjustments to the dates in a circular dated April 24.
The half-term holiday, which was originally slated to run from June 29 to July 2, 2023, will instead run from June 27 to July 1, 2023.
The dates were changed after Mr. Kahi Indimuli of the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) begged the PS to do so so that secondary school heads may attend a KESSHA conference.
The KESSHA chair requested an extension of the second term’s midterm dates in a letter dated March 26th in order to accommodate the 46th KESSHA conference.
The PS Belio Kipsang circular’s text, which highlights the new revisions, is reproduced below.
Request to Extend Mid-Term Dates, Reference
This letter, Ref. KESSHA/NATCONFF/3/VOL.1/23, from the National Chairman of the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association on the aforementioned matter, dated March 26, 2023, is referred to.
The letter mentions that the KESSHA 46th National Conference will be held on the same dates as the second term’s midterm exams as they are currently scheduled.
The National KESSHA Conference is a significant occasion that enables school administrators to reflect on and exchange experiences in managing schools, as acknowledged by the Ministry.
The midterm dates for the second term year 2023 have been changed as a result, and will now run from June 27 to July 1, 2023.
The changing dates must be noted and followed by all school administrators.
