RECRUITMENTS FOR DIPLOMA IN PRIMARY AND EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT TEACHER EDUCATION (DPTE AND DECTE)
The suggested entrance requirements for Kenya’s Diploma in Primary & Early Childhood Teacher Education are shown below.
REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTRY TO THE DPTE (DIPLOMA IN PRIMARY TEACHER EDUCATION)
A C (Plain) or its equivalent in the following cluster courses is required for admittance into the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (Grades 1-6).
1. Kiswahili and English;
2. Mathematics;
3Sciences (Any);
Sciences (Any).
b) For applicants with impairments, the entry-level grade need is a C- (Minus), as well as a C- (Minus) in the aforementioned subject cluster.
c) According to the approved Curriculum designs, the course must last three (3) years.
d) The Trainees must complete the suggested coursework hours, the necessary practical hours, and pass the examinations as instructed by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).
e) As a requirement for engaging in teaching practice, the Teacher Trainee must complete a three-month microteaching course.
THE DIPLOMA IN EARLY CHILDHOOD TEACHER EDUCATION (DECTE) ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
A C (Plain) Mean Grade in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (KCSE) or its equivalent, as determined by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), is required for admission to the Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE).
c. Candidates with impairments must have a C- (Minus) grade in the KCSE or an equivalent in order to be admitted.
c. The Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE) program will take three (3) years to complete.
d. Candidates for the Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE) are required to enroll in ALL of the courses listed in the DECTE Curriculum.
e. The training program involves a three-month Micro Teaching course, which is a requirement for the two-term Teaching Practicum.
f. The candidate must complete the necessary coursework hours and successfully complete the appropriate assessment as instructed by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) in order to receive the Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE).
