MMUST Bans Mini Skirts, Rugged Trousers and Crocs
The Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) has implemented dress code regulations for its students, prohibiting the wearing of plastic shoes, slippers, crocs, mini skirts, torn denim, and other forms of ‘indecent wear’ which the institution considers unofficial. This directive, issued by the institution’s Dean of Students, Bernardatte Abwao, aims to address concerns about the increasing instances of indecent attire among some students.
In the memorandum, Dr. Abwao expressed appreciation for students who adhere to the university’s dress code standards while also expressing concern about those who do not. The institution further bans obscenely written T-shirts, crocs, slippers, and all types of plastic footwear.
Additionally, the memo specifies that students wearing miniskirts, skin-tight trousers, ripped jeans, low-cut blouses, and dresses will be denied access to the university. Female employees are also cautioned against wearing microshorts, see-through dresses, attire revealing bra straps, and sleeveless T-shirts. Male students are instructed not to wear sagging trousers or clothing that exposes their chests.
The university emphasizes the expectation for students to dress modestly and appropriately in line with the established dress code.
