Junior School Learners to Transition to Current Secondary Schools
The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), Narok branch, has taken a stand on the progression of Junior Secondary School (JSS) students, advocating for their enrollment in existing secondary schools. Charles Ngeno, the Executive Secretary, emphasized the ample infrastructure and available space in secondary schools, asserting that this move would address the inadequacies present in primary schools.
Ngeno expressed concern about the potential impact on teachers’ morale, suggesting that low morale could lead to compromised performance and a decline in the quality of education. He highlighted the inconsistency with the government’s vision of providing quality and affordable education.
Accompanied by other union officials, Ngeno reiterated the commitment to placing teachers in secondary schools in alignment with the terms specified in their appointment letters. Sheila Kuluo, the Branch Treasurer, joined in, stating their decision not to renew the contract with AON Minet due to perceived inadequate services.

Kuluo criticized AON for alleged exploitation of teachers over the past five years and called on the government to reconsider teachers’ medical coverage. The union expressed dissatisfaction with the irregular payment of tutors, citing instances where some educators reportedly went unpaid for the past five months.
This raises concerns about the financial well-being of teachers and calls for urgent attention to address these payment issues.
