Govt Releases Ksh2 Billion for KCSE & KCPE Examiners After 7 Months
The long-awaited process of the government settling the debt owing to the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) examiners, hired staff, and suppliers has started.
Education CS spoke at Kangaru School in Manyatta Constituency, Embu County. Ezekiel Machogu pointed out that the council had begun paying the Ksh2.5 billion in debts owed by teachers who participated in national examinations and contractors who built Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) classrooms.
“Since last week, about 1,950 contractors who built the CBC classes across the nation have been compensated. You can go see the County Director of Education to get paid if you haven’t received your dues, he said.
Machogu added that the council’s cash shortage had forced it to keep the outstanding bill on file for more than seven months after the procedure was finished, which had caused the delay.
Additionally, he said he would emphasise paying examiners on schedule in order to prevent further delays.
The CS also stated that this fiscal year, the ministry will employ 24,000 teachers. This will increase the 36,000 people working last year.
Local MP Gitonga Mukunji, who planned the Education Day celebration with the goal of recognising the top academic schools and students, was present.

Without a clear indication of when the dues would be paid out, payment of the professors who oversaw, invigilated, and marked the 2022 national examinations had been waiting.
Nominated Senator Esther Okenyuri defended the teachers who hadn’t been paid in the Senate earlier in the year. She demanded an explanation for the delay in the government’s disbursement of the monies.
