Government Has Made Changes to 2023 National Exams
In preparation for Kenya’s upcoming national exams in 2023, the Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya National Examinations Council, David Njengere, has issued a series of important directives.
One of the key announcements is that the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams will now be administered twice daily, with the collected papers being retrieved both times. The first set of papers will be collected in the morning and then returned after they have been reviewed.
This announcement was made by Njengere during a speech at the KNEC offices on Monday, coinciding with the commencement of the test seasons.
Moreover, it has been disclosed that starting with this year’s exams, KCSE examination papers will be collected twice from the storage containers. For the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment, there will be 576 distribution centers or containers in use. Additionally, 567 containers will be used for the distribution of KCSE papers.
To address the needs of 13 newly established sub-counties without containers, Njengere revealed that the council has acquired an additional 82 containers to facilitate the smooth transition.

He emphasized that the council has created a comprehensive mapping system connecting all examination centers with nearby delivery hubs. This strategic mapping will enable schools to conveniently collect their examination materials, even from neighboring sub-counties or counties.
Furthermore, Njengere stressed the importance of maintaining strict security within examination centers. Only authorized personnel, including center managers, supervisors, and invigilators, will be allowed access to these centers to ensure the integrity of the testing process.
Before the commencement of the examination session, center managers are required to provide the sub-county directors of education with a list of all support staff on duty.
Lastly, Njengere mentioned that from October 2nd to 6th, the council will conduct a comprehensive briefing and sensitization for all individuals responsible for administering the tests. He strongly urged everyone involved to attend these briefings personally and emphasized against delegation in this matter.
