Goodnight News To Unemployed Teachers As Ruto Re-affirms This
As part of changes in the education system, President William Ruto restated the government’s commitment to reducing differences in the teacher-student ratio in public schools.
Speaking at Limuru Girls High School, Ruto stated that his government has increased hiring efforts to bring the teacher-to-student ratio to a manageable level.
“While we wait to hire teachers for the upcoming school year, I have instructed CS Education to check into this situation. We’ll keep conducting that in all of our schools, he declared.
President Ruto remarked that as part of its efforts to support recently established Junior Secondary Schools under the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC), the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) had already hired 35,000 teachers.
He declared that the government will make comparable efforts to increase funding for public universities.
“Our universities and tertiary institutions have been struggling because we lacked the courage to accept the challenge.”
He promised to increase support for institutions that provide Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
This comes amid a high cost of living coupled with high taxation. This move will see unemployed teachers find means to fend their families.
The president also tabled a new funding model for university and college students which has received sharp criticism in the past week.
