Education CS issues New School Hours for Teachers & Learners
Morning and evening preps in schools have been prohibited by the government through the Ministry of Education. Education Secretary Ezekiel Machogu declared a moratorium on all teaching outside of the new school hours to provide children time to rest and alleviate mental stress.
The new laws will affect all public and private primary, secondary, and middle-level schools.
Machogu directed early in the year that lessons be held from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
“The curriculum states unequivocally that learning begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 3:45 p.m.” We are subjecting pupils to unnecessary problems by awakening them at 4 a.m. to attend school lessons at 6 a.m.” “We don’t want to put the kids through too much,” he added. They should get nine hours of sleep.” Machogu declared

Furthermore, the CS recommended against school buses collecting up pupils as early as 5 a.m. for early morning sessions and letting them off as late as 8 p.m.
“Students should not be required to work long hours at school.” The syllabus should be thoroughly covered in the allotted time. Let us not subject our students to unnecessary mental torment.” As he stated
According to Machogu, the implementation of these new restrictions intends to improve students’ well-being and lessen the weight of stress induced by extended study hours on their mental health.
Machogu emphasised that schools that do not comply with the new school hours will face severe consequences.
