School Principals Urged Not Send Students Away For Fees
School principals have been urged to avoid sending learners who have not paid school fees home. This has been said by the West Pokot County Education Director Simon Wamae.
Wamae advised the principal to settle fee payment issues with the parents/guardians.
While speaking in Kisumu during the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) conference, Wamae reminded the principals that it is a government directive that no learner should be sent home for school fees.
He also reminded principals that they have various resources in their schools and they should make use of them to avoid sending learners home.
Wamae told them to document the resources available in the school and keep them in their inventory.
He further advised the principals to be influencers and not bosses and always benchmark from their colleagues on various leadership styles.
Principals were urged to be within their jurisdictions.
Simon urged the principals to uphold utmost transparency in managing their institutions in order to earn learner confidence by influencing them.
“You should be role models in whatever you do in order to earn the confidence of both teachers and students,” Wamae said.
The KESSHA Vice Chairman indicated that the teachers are working under express ultimatum with parents pressurizing them to perform.
The principals were urged to be very firm in discharging their duties.
