Days Secondary Schools Decry Discrimination In Gov’t Funding (Capitation)
Innocent Mugabe, a Likuyani Member of Parliament (MP), has pleaded with the government to implement a fair and open system for allocating development funding to secondary day schools.
Day schools, which serve a sizable section of the student population, Mugabe contended, should have equal access to infrastructure and instructional opportunities for their development and progress.

He demanded a review of the current regulations and the formulation of unambiguous rules that give all schools, whether boarding or day, equal access to resources.
He mentioned this while handing out NGCDF bursary checks at Matunda SA Primary School. “It’s time for the government to recognise and rectify the discrimination faced by day schools in the disbursement of development funds,” he said.
According to the MP, the existing resource distribution system unfairly favours boarding institutions, placing day schools at a severe disadvantage.
According to him, “These schools serve a sizable population of students, many of whom come from underprivileged backgrounds, and they deserve the same opportunities for improvement and growth as their boarding school counterparts.”
Mugabe pointed out that this inequality not only feeds into existing inequality but also lowers the general standard of instruction offered by day schools.
As elected officials, it is our duty to protect the rights of our constituents and make sure they have equal access to opportunities.
