Nyamira County schools in Crisis
Following the retirement of majority of the principals in Nyamira County, many schools are facing Leadership crisis.
Firstly, the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) Chairman Job Oira faulted the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for failing and taking too long to replace the principals who have retired from the Service.
The KESSHA Chairman reiterated that the commission has not replaced principals who have retired in the last two years.
He mentioned that up to date majority of the schools in the county are under the leadership of the Deputy Principals who are in the acting capacity.
“It is also unfortunate that the majority of the deputies who are acting as headteachers who do not meet the qualifications to be considered for promotion by the employer,” said Oira.
While at Nyambaria Boys High School on Friday last week during price giving cum education day, Oira urged the Teachers Service Commission to hasten the process of replacing retired heads in order to avert the current Crisis in schools.

Secondly, During the event at Nyambaria which was grace by the KUPPET Secretary, Nyamira branch said that a number of teachers have stagnated in the same job group for long without promotion and urged the Teachers Service Commission to look into those teachers.

During the event that was graced by the Nyamira KUPPET Chairman, Festus Segera echoed Nyakweba’s words and urged the commission to promote all those teachers who have stagnated in the same job group for years.
“Our teachers have not been promoted for the last five years, a factor that has killed the morale in the teaching profession. We are appealing to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to promote them as stipulated in the law,” Segera Said.
And lastly, Nelson Sifuna, the Nyanza Region Education Director who was also in attendance in the Nyambaria event answered Nyakweba and Segera saying that the government was in the verge of replacing those retired heads and there should be no cause for alarm.
