Comrades To Send The Following Details Inorder To Receive Free Food Amid HELB Delay
In a compassionate gesture, Anthony Mayara, the Chairman of the Kenya Universities Students’ Organization (KUSO), has extended assistance to university students dealing with delayed disbursements from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB). Mayara made this announcement on Twitter, introducing an initiative called “ZA KABEJ” that aims to provide immediate aid to vulnerable students experiencing food insecurity due to these delays.
Expressing deep concern for students who not only face frustration due to HELB delays but also struggle to afford basic necessities, Mayara urged affected students to share their financial situations. To be eligible for assistance, students are asked to respond to his tweet with a brief explanation of their circumstances, a screenshot of their MPESA balance, MPESA number, HELB batch number, and the name of their respective university or institution.
The “Kabej” initiative primarily focuses on addressing essential needs. With approximately Ksh 105, a meal consisting of maize flour or rice, tomatoes, onions, eggs, and cooking oil can be prepared, ensuring that students do not go hungry during these challenging times.

This action taken by KUSO’s chairman not only demonstrates solidarity within the student community but also underscores the pressing need for a swift resolution to the issues surrounding the disbursement of financial aid that many Kenyan students are currently facing.
