CBC Implementation Hampered by inadequate Teachers, Resources
The Member of Parliament (MP) representing Suna West, Peter Masara, has raised significant concerns regarding the sluggish progress of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), a relatively recent educational initiative introduced just one year ago. His concerns were eloquently articulated during a press release held at the Maranatha Church Assemblies in Migori Town.
Masara underscored the pressing need for a robust pool of qualified teachers and adequate resources to effectively support the CBC. He put forth the proposal that instead of recruiting new teachers, existing educators should undergo specialized training to equip them with the skills required for CBC implementation.
Furthermore, he shed light on the challenging circumstances schools encounter due to delayed funding and unpaid suppliers, which inevitably hinder the smooth execution of the curriculum.

The legislator passionately emphasized the paramount importance of upholding the quality of education for the nation’s children. He voiced deep apprehensions that the current educational challenges are hindering students’ progress and placing immense strain on both educators and learners alike.
Masara astutely pointed out that the issues surrounding CBC implementation appear to be pervasive, affecting primary schools nationwide. He suggested that secondary schools, already equipped with infrastructure such as laboratories, should have been the primary focal point for the introduction of the CBC.
In a resolute conclusion, the MP passionately called upon the government to take immediate action in addressing these pressing concerns and alleviating the financial hardships faced by schools. He highlighted instances where school principals have been compelled to intermittently send students home, disrupting the continuity of the learning process.
Masara’s impassioned plea serves as a poignant reminder of the critical need for swift and effective action to ensure the success of the CBC and the future of the nation’s education system.
